1- Jocelyn W: What is Art?

Art can be a powerful means of communication.  Art is meaningful based on its ability to appeal to an individual's thoughts or emotions.  However, the meaning behind a piece of art is subject to a variety of interpretations by those who encounter it.  Individuals understand the world around them according to their unique experiences; therefore, what is pleasing to one person may be startling to another.  Art can challenge what audience members believe about the world around them in an attempt to broaden their perspectives.  Art allows for the expression of thoughts or feelings that may be too complex for words alone.  I believe good art is created in attempt to contribute something original, lasting, and beneficial to the world.

I am inspired by nature, among many other things, and I believe this photograph represents "good art" because it captures simple, natural beauty.  I find it to be a rather still and peaceful image.  It offers us the knowledge that the little things are what make life beautiful.
