On "What Is Art"

For me, the term artwork is about as broad, open-ended and all-encompassing as it gets. I think artwork can be anything that involves originality of thought and expression, and the creative process. I see many different impetuses for art, and many different purposes ranging from purely emotional, a means of expression, to art with a political, social or philosophical messages, to art that simply seeks to capture the aesthetics of something. Good artwork for me, is simply something with a strong purpose and execution, and is in the best cases, something that makes one both admire and think, and influences the viewer in a positive and deep way--this is what gives it the most meaning. In my interpretation art is in a broader sense always a way of interaction between a person and the world, something that gives expression and affirmation to his/her part in the world and experiences in it.
My personal favorites of visual art are Rembrandt and Picasso. I admire Picasso for his creative and fantastical works of genius that are so pleasing and mysterious to the imagination. I admire Rembrandt, because to me he is the greatest painter for his unparalleled aesthetic technique and depictions of the human being--i love his rich and profound style of capturing human figure.
